Your learning progress stays on your device, and we never receive it. Learn Shogi plays fully offline. There is no account, no sign-up, and no login. The app contains no ads, no analytics, and no crash reporting, and it sends nothing to any server of ours.
Two honest caveats, both spelled out below. First, Android's own device backup, if you have it switched on, may keep a copy of your progress in your Google Drive — see “Where Your Data Is Stored”. Second, three optional buttons hand off to another app when you tap them — share, rate, and send feedback; see “When you tap Share, Rate, or Send Feedback” for exactly what each one does.
To remember where you are in the game, the app saves a small amount of data locally on your device only:
This is stored as simple completion markers and counts. It contains no personal details — no name, no email, no identifiers — just your learning progress.
All of the above is written to a local database in the app's own private storage on your device. We never receive it. It is not uploaded to any server of ours, not synced to any account we control, and we keep no copy of it anywhere.
One thing you should know: like most Android apps, Learn Shogi leaves Android's own Auto Backup switched on, and the app's progress file is inside the folder Android backs up. So if you have device backup enabled in your Google account, Android may copy your progress into your own Google Drive backup and restore it when you reinstall the app or set up a new phone. That copy sits in your Google account rather than ours, is covered by Google's privacy policy, and we cannot read it. You can switch device backup off, or delete the backup, in your device settings under Google → Backup.
These three buttons are the only parts of the app that reach outside it. Each one runs only when you tap it, and each one hands over to an app or service that is not ours:
Opens your device's own share sheet with a short line of text: the app's name, its one-line description, and a link to its store listing. Whichever app you then pick — messages, email, a social app — receives that text and is governed by its own privacy policy. We are never told with whom you shared, and the link carries nothing about you or your device.
The link does carry a plain campaign tag
(utm_source=app_share, plus which in-app button you used) —
the same kind of tag any marketing link carries. It lets the store's
aggregate acquisition report show us how many installs came from in-app
shares, which is how we know the feature is worth keeping. The tag is a
property of the link, not of you: it names no person, no device and no
individual share, and nothing in it can be traced back to you.
Opens Google Play's in-app review sheet, which is provided and displayed by Google Play, not by us. Your rating and any review text go to Google Play under Google's privacy policy; published reviews appear publicly on the store listing under your Play profile name. If the sheet is unavailable, the app instead opens the store listing in your browser or Play app.
Opens your own email app with a message addressed to us, pre-filled with a blank space for your report plus technical context to help us reproduce the problem:
That is the complete list, and all of it is visible in the draft email before you send it.
Nothing is sent until you press send in your email app, and you can edit or delete any of it first. When you do send it, we receive the email address you sent it from along with whatever you wrote — that is how we reply to you. We keep those emails in the studio's mailbox to answer them and to track the bug, and we use them for nothing else. Ask us at the address below and we will delete your correspondence.
Outside of the three buttons above, Learn Shogi does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
Your learning data is yours to delete, and you never need to ask us. To remove what the app has saved:
If you have Android device backup switched on, also delete the backup (Settings → Google → Backup). Otherwise reinstalling the app, or setting up a new phone, can restore your progress from your Google Drive backup — uninstalling alone does not reach that copy. It is in your Google account, not ours, so it is yours to remove.
We hold no server-side copy of your progress, because none is ever collected. The only things we can hold are a feedback email you chose to send us, or a review you left on Google Play — email us to have the former deleted, and use Google Play to edit or delete the latter.
The app bundles no third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs, and no code that profiles or tracks you across apps or sessions. The only third parties involved are the ones you invoke yourself, plus Android's own backup described above:
Google Play also distributes the app and reports aggregate, anonymous install and crash statistics to us as the developer. That is a function of the store, not of anything in the app, and it never identifies you.
Learn Shogi is a self-contained learning game that collects no personal information from anyone, including children. It is safe for learners of all ages. The share, rate, and feedback buttons hand off to the device's own apps and to Google Play; a parent who would rather a child not use them can simply not tap them.
