Summary
Beat Check is designed with your privacy in mind. All your audio recordings stay on your device and are never uploaded to any server. We use anonymous analytics to improve the app, but we never collect personal information or account data.
Data We Store
- Audio Recordings: Recorded to your device's app-private storage so they can be analyzed, then deleted once the analysis is finished. They are never uploaded to any server, and Beat Check does not keep a library of your audio.
- Practice History: The results of your takes (the timing of each note, your tempo, and the date) are saved on your device so you can look back at your progress. This is the measurement, not the recording - the audio itself is already gone. Beat Check keeps your most recent takes and automatically deletes older ones.
- App Settings: Your preferences (timing tolerance, BPM) stored locally on your device.
- Usage Statistics: Anonymous counts, such as the number of analyses completed, stored locally to decide when to show rating prompts.
Data Storage
All data is stored locally on your device using standard platform storage mechanisms:
- Practice history: Saved to your device's app-private storage
- Settings: Saved using SharedPreferences (key-value local storage)
Your data remains on your device and is not synced to any cloud service. There is no account and no sign-up, so there is nothing for us to sync it to.
Data We Don't Collect
We do NOT collect, store, or have access to:
- Personal information (name, email, phone number)
- Account credentials or login information
- Location data
- Contacts or address book
- Your audio recordings (never uploaded)
- Photos or other media
Microphone Permission
Beat Check requires microphone access to record your practice sessions for rhythm analysis. This permission is only used when you actively start a recording. Audio is processed locally on your device and is never transmitted to any external server.
Data Deletion
You can delete your data from inside the app at any time:
- Delete one take: Swipe it away in the History screen
- Delete every take: Use "Delete all" in the History screen
Or remove everything at once:
- Go to your device Settings
- Find Apps → Beat Check
- Tap "Clear Data" or "Clear Storage"
Or simply uninstall the app - all local data, including your history and settings, will be permanently removed. Since we don't store any data on servers, uninstalling completely removes all traces of your usage.
Third-Party Services
Firebase Analytics (Google)
We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics:
- What we track: Events like app opens, recording sessions started/completed, and analysis results (BPM, accuracy percentages)
- What we DON'T track: Personal information, audio content, or precise location
- Purpose: To understand how users interact with the app and improve features
- Advertising ID: We've disabled advertising ID collection - the app does not collect or use advertising identifiers, and we do not share data with advertisers

Firebase Crashlytics (Google)
On the Android app only, we use Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous crash and diagnostic data - stack traces, device model, OS version, and app state at the moment of a crash - so we can find and fix stability issues. No personal information or audio content is included, and Crashlytics is not used on the web version. Firebase Crashlytics privacy: firebase.google.com/support/privacy
Children's Privacy
Beat Check does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. The app is suitable for users of all ages, as it only processes audio locally and collects anonymous analytics.
